Cape Bezdan is located on the southern coast of the island of Koločep and is ideal for diving at a shallow depth followed by descending into the sea abyss. Here you can see the remains of the sailing ship Aurora found at a depth of 18 meters. In addition to wrecks and sea caves, you can see all the wealth of underwater Dubrovnik at this diving location. Lobsters, octopuses, moray eels, sea sponges, and snails are just some of the inhabitants of this area.
During the time of the Republic of Dubrovnik, ships were built in Koločep, and even two crew members of Columbo’s Santa Maria were famous sailors from this island. Today, Koločep, or as the locals call it Kalamota, is an ideal haven for a peaceful vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Diving at Cape Bezdan is one of the more interesting dives in Dubrovnik with many caves, coves and underwater reefs. The Great Cave on Bezdan, with its abyss that descends almost 40 meters, is known among divers as one of the most magnificent underwater attractions in Dubrovnik.
Our organized dive on Bezdan starts in a beautiful cove on the island of Koločep, right below the island’s lighthouse, where there is a small hidden lake on the very cape that cannot be seen from the shore. At the very beginning of the dive, we will visit the underwater reef, admire the corals and the wealth of marine life. Then the dive continues to a depth of 10 meters, where there is an entrance to a 10-meter-wide cave, through which we pass and emerge into the underwater lake.
The adventure continues by passing through a short tunnel that leads to the magnificent remains of the wreck of the ship Aurora. The accident itself and the influence of sea currents and sea movements scattered the remains on the seabed at a depth of 18 meters.
