The wreck of the ship Tomislav, which sank off the coast of the island of Lokrum, is just one more proof that Dubrovnik’s underwater world is full of interesting things and wrecks of various ships. Like any shipwreck, this one has become home to many plant and animal species specific to the southern Adriatic.
The island of Lokrum is a green oasis and a protected nature reserve located only 15 minutes by boat from the old center of Dubrovnik. In addition to the rich underwater world, the island is characterized by many cultural and historical sights and an abundance of plant species.
Diving on the Tomislav wreck is one of the more exciting dives because this is an intact fishing boat wreck lying at an angle of 45o at a depth of 35 meters. Tomislav’s bow is facing the shore, and its stern lies calmly on the sandy seabed.
As you descend towards the seabed, at one point you will see the impressive bow that seems to emerge from the depths of the sea, and then the magnificent hull of the ship. Many divers cannot resist the urge to explore absolutely every part of the wreck, precisely because it is in almost perfect condition and can be viewed down to the smallest detail. Tomislav is today, apart from a very well-preserved specimen of the wreck, also a unique home of many species of fish! Lobsters, moray eels, and the red scorpionfish are just some of the inhabitants of sunken fishing boats.
